Jude Broughan

24 x 36", paper, photograph, thread

Broughan’s work addresses the process of understanding one place, one time—and, by extension, one state of being—through allusion to myriad alternatives. This work explores this multilayered ‘haunted’ territory by juxtaposing new, original photographs with others rephotographed from vintage books, the results then combined with natural and artificial materials such as leather and plastic. Images of food, plants, and travel suggest an ongoing fascination with ideas of physical and mental nourishment, producing, in conjunction with the collaged elements, a dialogue between past and present, preparation and result, origin and destination
